My name is Muhamad Aiman Muhamad Azmi. I'm an engineer, mostly by accident and mostly by curiosity — and somewhere along the way, explaining what I'd figured out became the part of the job I looked forward to most. This is my corner of the internet: part portfolio, part story, part open question about where it all goes from here.

HOW IT STARTED

Every engineer starts as a kid who took something apart

Long before test rigs and production lines, I was a diploma student at Universiti Malaysia Pahang, part of a small team building a can compactor that also dispensed candy. It sounds silly written down, but it taught me something I still believe: the best engineering makes someone smile while it quietly solves a real problem.

That habit followed me everywhere. A magnetic levitation rig held up by nothing but carefully-tuned magnetic coils. A three-phase motor drive I got to present at a conference in Sarawak, which is still one of my proudest memories. A sine wave inverter I nudged, patiently and a little stubbornly, from 70% efficiency to 80%. None of it was glamorous work. Most of it was just sitting with a problem until it made sense — and then trying to explain it so it made sense to someone else too.

A SMALL THING I'VE NOTICED I don't think understanding a machine and being able to explain it are the same skill. I spent my twenties learning the first one. I think I've spent most of my thirties, without quite planning to, learning the second.

By the time I finished my Master's thesis, I'd noticed something about myself: the most satisfying part of any project was never really the finished circuit. It was the moment someone else understood it well enough to go build the next one on their own.

Five companies, five different titles — but if you look closely, almost every role ended up with me showing someone else how to do the thing I'd just learned.

MAY 2015 — APR 2016

Process Engineer, Konica Minolta Business Technologies

SCADA operations · PLC tuning · SQL Server · RESTful APIs

My first real classroom, if I'm honest, was the production floor. Watching SCADA systems and gently tuning PLC configurations gave me a grounding in industrial automation I didn't fully appreciate until years later.

MAY 2016 — JUL 2019

Equipment Maintenance Engineer, Flex

Kaizen · line automation · training across departments

I helped lead a few Kaizen initiatives that eventually reached 98% compliance in global audits — work that only holds together if it's documented and explained clearly. I also built a Line Monitoring System that cut labour costs by 70%, and then, probably the part I enjoyed more, sat down with the operators and walked them through how to use it.

Test Engineer I, Microtronics Technology

Manufacturing applications · CAD · 3D printing

I led some application development work and wrote the user manuals that later onboarded new hires. I also ran hands-on CAD and rapid-prototyping sessions that shaved 20% off lead time and cost.

SEP 2022 — 2024

Test Engineer II, Flex Medical

Test automation · integration · documentation

This was the first time "mentor" appeared in my actual job description. I guided junior Test Engineers through debugging and integration work, and helped build automated testing equipment that lifted our team's productivity by 50% — mostly by turning things we all just "knew" into something we could actually teach.

Senior Test Engineer (Mentoring & Training), Wiwynn Corporation

These days I mentor junior engineers on server setup, scripting, and test methodology, and run structured training for production teams. I still build things too — Python test scripts, PHP dashboards backed by MySQL and PostgreSQL — but if I'm being truthful, the training sessions are the part of the week I look forward to most.

Honestly? I'm not entirely sure yet — and I like that

The trace that's run through this whole page finally forks here. I don't have a single answer for where the next decade goes, but here are a few directions I keep circling back to.

Stand in front of a classroom

Trade the test bench for a lecture hall, and see if the same patience that trains a junior engineer works just as well on a room full of students meeting these ideas for the first time.

Keep building, more publicly

Write up the projects, the dashboards, the small tools — not just for a manual nobody reads, but somewhere people can actually find and learn from them.

C

Go deeper into automation

Chase the parts of the job I already love most — test automation, IoT, the quiet satisfaction of a well-tuned system — and see how far that curiosity still has left to run.
